Tree planting donations
Our exhibitions now offer tree planting instead of plastic-based merchandise.
In 2023 we reviewed our approach to exhibiting, particularly with respect to “giveaways” which are often provided as an inducement to starting sales conversations across the exhibitions and conferencing industry.
Previously, Helena have sourced, designed and provided a wide variety of items:
- Pens, notepads and stationery
- Sweets and branded confectionary
- Branded items such as gadgets and electronics
Of course, many of these items are problematic for a variety of reasons — whether because they contain plastic, metal and other parts which make recycling of them difficult, or because of the resources which go into their manufacture. As awareness of the sustainability issues of these items increases, we have taken a look at the impact of these and decided that there are better and more meaningful ways of interacting with attendees.
Therefore we have decided instead to provide sizeable donations to recognised sustainability charities and non-profit organisations, which allows us to engage with our customers and interested visitors as part of a wider and more useful discussion on how business is conducted throughout the IVD industry and beyond.
Our first donation is via the World Land Trust, as part of a prize draw which we held at IBMS Congress in Birmingham UK this autumn. We will update our website with further news in due course.
