Clinical electrophoresis background
Serum protein electrophoresis is a powerful and well-established technique in which proteins are separated in a charged medium by differences in their electrophoretic mobility. In gel electrophoresis, a fixed matrix of acetate or agarose acts as a medium for the protein's separation, slowing larger proteins and allowing smaller proteins to migrate faster. For capillary electrophoresis all separation occurs in a narrow bore capillary filled with buffer.
Gel and capillary electrophoresis give comparable results, despite being different methods.
